Pat was born on March 7th 1954 at Balcarres, Saskatchewan, the sixth of seven children born to Bill & Clara Maloney of Lebret, Saskatchewan. Pat spent his childhood growing up on the shores of Mission Lake in the beautiful Qu’Appelle Valley. He attended Elementary School (1960-1968) in Lebret and received his High School education at College Mathieu (1968-1972) in Gravelbourg Saskatchewan. After his High School graduation in 1972 Pat attended York University (Glendon Campus) in Toronto, Ontario for one year.

Pat’s survey career started in the summer of 1970, while still in high school, he was employed as a chainman by Condon Surveys Ltd of Regina. Condon Surveys Ltd was owned and operated by Pat’s brother-in-law, Jim Condon SLS. Each summer through High School & University Pat returned to Condon Surveys Ltd as a chainman advancing to Instrument man as time went on.  After returning from Toronto in 1973 Pat rejoined Condon Surveys Ltd full time. He continued his training under the mentorship of Jim Condon and soon became a Party Chief. In 1979 Pat signed his Articles to Jim Condon and on June 20th 1983 he was Granted SLS Commission #243.

Pat relocated to Weyburn, Saskatchewan in 1983 and founded Maloney Surveys Ltd. He remained in private practice in Weyburn for the next 35 years although the company name changed a few times. Maloney Surveys Ltd.; Condon Group (SE) Inc.; Condon Survey Group Inc and finally in 2007 ownership was transferred to Altus Geomatics LP. where Pat stayed on as a Branch Manager and Project Manager until his retirement in June 2018 marking 45 years with the Company.

Pat married Gwen Cunningham on Feb 5th 1977 and they have three children, Ryan Patrick B Tech. SLS (#295), Sarah Gaylene B Ed. M Ed, and  Heather Maureen B Tech, SLS (#321) as well as six grandchildren.

Pat believes that we all need to give back and as such he stayed active in the community. He served on the executive of many minor sports groups as well as coaching and managing numerous teams. He held many positions with the Weyburn Red Wings Jr. “A” Hockey club, including Business Manager and League Governor. In 2005 he Co-chaired the RBC Royal Bank Cup JR. “A” National Championship held in Weyburn. Pat spent 20 years on the Board of the Weyburn Wor-Kin-Shop and many years on the City of Weyburn Facilities Committee.

Pat stayed involved with the SLSA. He served a two year term as a Councillor as well as a three year term which included his term as SLSA President in 1997. He has also served on numerous Committees over the years including Practice, Professional Conduct, and many Convention Committees including Chairing the 100th Anniversary AGM in 2010. Pat & Gwen continue to reside in Weyburn and since retiring in 2018 have taken some time to travel as well as enjoying family & friends. Pat fills his time with woodworking, photography and the occasional round of golf. He continues to sit on a number of Local, Regional and Provincial Boards and Tribunals.
