Articled to D. Babiuk

Ed was born in Gravelbourg in 1953 and raised on a farm near Coderre, Saskatchewan. He graduated from Coderre High School in 1971 and then enrolled in the Survey Technology Program at the Saskatchewan Technical Institute in Moose Jaw. He received a Diploma in Survey Technology in 1973 and immediately began employment with the Government of Saskatchewan, Department of Natural Resources.

Ed soon found that he liked working on survey crews and enjoyed the travel and outdoor adventure that came with the job. His work took him to all corners of the Province doing a variety of surveys including boundary surveys for Provincial Parks, Wildlife Lands and other Crown Lands, and mapping, designing and laying out of subdivisions around Saskatchewan's northern lakes.

In 1974 Ed began his articles with Dan Babiuk and received his commission as a Saskatchewan Land Surveyor on May 31, 1978. He was the first student from the Moose Jaw Technical Institute to receive a Land Surveyor's Commission.

In 1982 Ed accepted the position of Director of Legal Surveys for the Central Survey and Mapping Agency in Regina. He was appointed Acting Deputy Chief Surveyor for the Province's Land Titles Office in 1998 as part of the consolidation of the government survey offices that occurred during the Land Titles Automation Project. He accepted the appointment of Controller of Surveys in 2000 with the Saskatchewan Information Services Corporation and remained there until 2008 when he retired from government after 35 years of service. In 2005 Ed was awarded the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal from the Lieutenant Governor for his extended contribution to surveying while working in the government sector.

Over the years Ed has been an active supporter of the Land Surveyors Association. He served as President of the Association in 1985 and has maintained his involvement over the years by serving as chairman or member on most committees. He also served several years on the Survey Technology Advisory Board for the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology.

Ed and his wife Carla live in Regina and have three grown children Jason, Brittney, and Madison. Ed continues to spend time at the family farm in Coderre and in addition to farming, enjoys fishing, camping, skiing, and travelling.
