Gordon McGregor McKay was born February 4, 1920 at Stoughton, Sask. He served five years with the Royal Canadian Artillery Special Assault Troops in England and Continental Europe. After returning to Canada, he attended the University of Manitoba where he obtained a B. Sc. in Electrical Engineering in 1950 and, immediately upon graduating, found employment with the Saskatchewan Power Corporation.
In 1953 he signed articles of agreement with T. G. Tyrer and was granted commission #134 as a Saskatchewan Land Surveyor on August 15, 1955. He also became a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan in September of 1955 and became a life member of that association on January 31, 1997. He was secretary-treasurer of the Saskatchewan Land Surveyors’ Association from 1962 to 1974. He became an non-active member of the Association in 1977 and he was a retired member from 1987 to 1989.
Gordon continued his employment with the Saskatchewan Power Corporation until his retirement in 1983 by which time he was Manager of Hydro and Peaking Stations. He and his wife Jean had four children, Donald Gordon, Ronald William, Carol Lynn and Robert Bruce.
Gordon McGregor McKay, B.Sc., SLS, P. Eng. passed away on January 10, 2001 in Regina.
