On November 24th, 1956, John Waldron pioneer land surveyor and professional engineer passed away in his sleep while in a survey camp on Anderson Like, four miles from Snow Lake, Manitoba.

Mr. Waldron was born in Pine Grove, Ontario on August 1st, 1872. He obtained his early education at West Toronto public and high school. After graduating he taught school for a time in Ontario and then returned to University where he graduated as a Civil Engineer from the School of Practical Science at the University of Toronto.

He held commissions as a Dominion, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta Land Surveyor as well as being a member of the Association of Professional Engineer for the Province of Manitoba. His commission as a Saskatchewan Land Surveyor was issued on March 2nd, 1914 and was Commission No. 10.

  • Mr. Waldron began his professional career in 1903 as a transit man on Ontario Land Surveys.

  • From 1904 to 1905 he was with the Toronto and Niagara Power Company.

  • 1905 to 1906 - Resident Engineer Halifax and S.W. Railway Company.

  • 1906 to 1907 - Resident Engineer Niagara, St. Catharines and Toronto Railway on construction of Electric Railway in Niagara Peninsula.

  • From 1907 to 1910 he was on land subdivision work for the Dominion Government and private subdivision.

  • From 1910 to 1922 he practised as a private surveyor at Moose Jaw.

  • From 1922 to 1946 he was engaged on mining claim surveys and municipal engineering in Northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan operating out of The Pas and Flin Flon. For five years he was municipal Engineer for Flin Flon.

  • From 1946 until his death he continued to practise in the Flin Flon area making mineral claim and other surveys in Northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Mr. Waldron is survived by his wife the former Teresa Marshall and one son, John Ross who resides in Toronto.

At the time of his death, Mr. Waldron was the oldest surveyor on the register.
