Thomas (Tom) Crump was born in the S.E. 36-16-22-2, near Pense, Saskatchewan on January 26, 1920. The family moved to Regina in 1922 and he attended Thomson Public School and Campion College. In 1937 he joined the Royal Air Force, serving in the U.K. and Middle East until June 1945, at which time he transferred to the RCAF and was discharged shortly thereafter. Later, in 1952 he rejoined the RCAF Auxiliary Squadron in Saskatoon and attended weekly parades until the squadron closed down in 1964.

Tom articled under O.W. Martyn, SLS in 1947 and trained under E.W. Murray and F.C. Sambe obtaining his commission April 6, 1951. During the period of articles he was employed with the Provincial Department of Highways and continued with that department until his retirement in 1980 as Assistant Director of Surveys. He also obtained his D.L.S. commission in 1953.

Between 1952 arid 1980 Tom served on most Committees of the Association and was President in 1966. From 1967 to 1976 he represented the Association on the Advisory Council of the College of Engineering, Saskatoon and Regina, and between 1970 and 1974 served on the University of Saskatchewan’s Board of Examiners for Land Surveyors. In 1981 Tom was honoured with the designation of “Life Member” of the SLSA.
