Harold Brown, well-known local broadcaster and businessman, died suddenly Friday night at the age of 47.

Owner and president of radio station CHEC, Mr. Brown had complained of not feeling well at work Friday. He entered hospital on the advice of his doctor, and died there later of a heart attack.

Mr. Brown, a native of Saskatchewan, came to Lethbridge in the late 1940s and started H.W. Brown and Co., a land surveying business in 1949. He held land survey commissions in both Alberta and Saskatchewan. The company was re-organized in 1969 as Brown, Okamura and Associates. Mr. Brown was a partner in that firm until earlier this year.

In 1958, he opened CHEC in partnership with three other businessmen. Since 1960, he had been sole owner of the station.

He was survived by his father, H.C. Brown of Lethbridge, five children and a sister in California.
